The building's in The Age of Kings are divide into economic & military buildings categories. The Buildings can research the technologies & upgrades that increase military, economic or unit-based efficiency and provide resources for player.

The Age of Kings have multi player mode over the Internet and also via LAN-Local Area Network. Up to 8 players can play in one game with all the single player modes available. MSN Gaming Zone also supported this game until service closed on 19th June 2006. Now Alternative services are available at Game Ranger, Game Spy Arcade and Voobly are recommended as replacement.

The HD Edition of this game released in 2013 which also supports multi player mode through Steam and higher graphics resolution & greater number of highest units.
